This is really, truly lovely. I long for more stories and films with this kind of depth and heart, ones that don't assume the audience are full of idiots needing every single thing hammered into their heads. You trust your audience to understand subtlety and nuance, and that's so refreshing. Thank you for sharing your art with us, Mike. It's a rare gem and I'm so glad I had a chance to watch it.
Thank you April — really glad you enjoyed it :) Uli's a great guy to work with... I've actually just written another for him, though that's more of a horror thing.
He did such a great job with this one. And yes, short movies are a little like short stories... you don't have to do EVERYthing, just one thing, and hope it lands.
Yes, and yet many shorts and movies getting made today are shoving it all down our throats with such force I end up feeling exhausted at the end, and I find it both insulting and frustrating. So you've done something extraordinary in this short, Mike. It's just lovely in its trust in the audience. Do more please. I'd watch the hell out of more like this.
While I'd love to say I'll watch the new one, I can't watch horror.
Damn, that was good! So much so that I sent it to Sarah's oldest friend, Venita, who makes shorts and has just finished a long. And she wrote back immediately: "It was wonderful! One of the best shorts I've ever seen (with the kind of twist I always go for). Than you so much or sharing it!!! I'd love to see (read) more of his work." So (please note correct grammatical usage) here's another thing: as she's such a dear friend to both of us, I've just given her a year's sub to your stack and sent her a be-careful-what-you-wish-for note.
I just saw notification of that subscription! Thank you so much, Richard, that's very kind of you. And I'm really glad you (and she) liked the movie... Uli did such a great job with it :-)
All very good with us thanks. Off to Strasbourg this weekend for the European Court of Human Rights to rule on whether Switzerland owes obligations to Swiss women elders who face premature deadly illnesses as a result of state-subsidised greenhouse gas emissions (the peer-reviewed science is complicated but it's essentially undisputed by Switzerland), whose reaction in the face of climate change's ticking time-bomb boils down to: 'Switzerland is a special case, we need a bit more time to get to carbon neutrality.' American exceptionalism is nothing new, of course. Every state will say it has "exceptional" needs. We need a judgment on when "needs" need "rights" to protect them from the powerfully needy.
Beautiful. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it — thank you!
Lovely, and wonderful cinematography. Thank you
Looks beautiful, doesn't it. All on Uli and his crew...
You don’t have to say a lot to say a lot. Class.
Thank you :)
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing! This speaks volumes to me.
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Lovely, thank you

Didn't know what to expect but had my expectations nicely subverted anyway!
Just very simple and the ethereal nature of the actress permeates the whole short.
I'm kinda of interested in the caretaker, something about him seemed interesting.
Appreciate the share!
Glad you enjoyed it! And yes, Emma has an astonishing quality on screen. I'd be quite interested to know more about the caretaker, too!
Thank you for this, such depth and elegance in a little over eight minutes. A beautiful film!
Thank you Lisa :-)
I love it. The caretaker is listening to modern music? 🧐
Oh, haha I got it now.. a bit dense at times 🤪
:-)
Very lovely.
Thank you!
Glorious. Watched and then immediately had to show the wife and daughter. It just shows that there are deeper truths sometimes
Really glad you enjoyed it — thank you!
Loved it. Typical MMS twist too. I saw this on the BBC today and it reminded me of "More Tomorrow". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68673390
Thank you — really glad you enjoyed it! Yikes, that deepfake story, though. There's going to be more and more of that...

Thanks. caught me out nicely. Suggestion's better than words sometimes.
Emma (Mayor Of Kingstown) Laird too. That was a bonus.
Brian
She's great, isn't she. Glad you liked it :)
Very moving more like this please!
Thank you! Glad you liked it :-) I've actually just written another short for Uli but that's more of a horror thing...
This is beautiful. You have the gift of less is more. :)
Thank you — that's very kind!
