Following on the heels of From Life, here’s another short movie. It’s called Unbelief, based on my short story of the same name — and directed by the extremely talented Fabien Martorell. This is one of those stories that dropped straight into my head from the sky, in this case while sitting exactly where the bulk of it is set, Bryant Park — my favorite spot in NYC. Beginning, middle, end. All I had to do was write it.
Because it’s password-protected on Vimeo, it won’t embed here, so I’ll put the link below and you’ll have to click and then enter the password, like the early settlers. It’s possibly just as well to be able to pick your moment, as though the story’s set around Christmas, well… you know how sometimes I write short stories with a nice, upbeat vibe? Okay, not often, but sometimes? This isn’t one of those.
BUT it has really strong performances from Tobin Bell and Andrew Howard. Watch at your own risk, but I think we did a decent job. Let me know.
Here’s the movie. The password is: unbeliefshort3
LOL! No, not really. But really nice nonetheless, Michael. Very solid performances. It's not easy to film in NYC in the Christmas season. Did you guys shoot really late at night? Not that that would have made a big difference in the city that never sleeps.
My early Christmas short story, "Coming Home," is also very dark. It's been done in every format EXCEPT film -- print, stage, podcast -- although the books were optioned. Always fun.
I really love this short. They’re both so great in it, and I’ve got a soft spot for this story.
Here you go, here’s my Christmas story. About a thousand words long, wrote it for my mum’s Dutch partner back in 2013 when I was skint and couldn’t buy presents for Christmas.
