Going forward, I hope you will tell a little part of your journey-story in every post so your readers can stand shoulder to shoulder with you in witless admiration.
Because I'm in the process of looking for work, I've read A LOT of company "About" and "Our Story" pages, and I can tell you that almost without exception, they are useless drivel that says nothing about their actual story or what they honestly do.
Exhibit A:
"We are tech innovators and engineers motivated to 'make things' that advance the public good. Through our IT expertise and subject matter knowledge, we strive to exceed our customers’ expectations every day and improve the lives of those in our communities."
That part about making things? I know you probably thought I did that, but you'd be wrong. They typed that out and then added quotes themselves. And look, that sounds lovely, but WHAT DOES IT EVEN MEAN? After reading their webpages, I have almost no more information about what they actually do than I did before. So yeah, if everyone could stop with the journey and story and tell us something we need to know, that'd be great.
Bitterness is wholly allowable in these circs ;-) I have to admit I did assume that you'd put the quote marks around 'make things". FFS. I check in on a site called Product Hunt most days to see if there's anything new and cool out that I can use to procrastinate by testing out, and increasingly it seems to be AI software with write-ups that have been written by AI... and your Exhibit A sounds a LOT like it's one of those...
I've actually been known to buy bright t-shirts in England for a holiday & leave them there when I return…
… accidentally, though I'm sure the universe had my back.
I nearly brought back a darbuka one time & actually did once bring back a carpet. That was a 'fun' negotiation at the airport.
I also once bought two Venetian masks, very expensive ones, and had them shipped. Six weeks of "Will they ever send them or were we ripped off?". They're still on the wall in the hallway, 25 years later. Faith in humanity *is* sometimes justified.
Okay, you made me laugh with the "journey" line ;-) My mother was an inveterate bringer-back of things, generally in hand luggage... including two vast Columbian pots that we now have in our living room...
See, THOSE stories I might actually read ;-) Especially the AUTHENTICITY of "I spent so many years trying to figure out how to rip people off with no effort..."
The clothing purchased on a whim. I try to ask myself if I'll ever wear it again before buying it. Maybe an idea for a vacation clothes rental service.
I zeroed in on the word ‘dull’ there….I can recommend The Dull Men’s Club group on the time thief known as Facebook
Things I’ve taken through airports include a very beautiful hand-carved walking stick from Leipzig, Germany. The top bit is a raven, so of course it’s called Muninn. The airport guy wanted to know if it contained a sword blade…..
Houses definitely test us. Ours flooded the day after we moved in. It turned out that it just wanted us to pull up the shitty manufactured flooring to reveal the glorious original flooring that just needed a refurbishing. It has (mostly) loved us ever since.
Journey. JOURNEY! Do not get me started. Come sit on my porch, we will listen to Jimmy Buffet.
Whenever someone said "I changed my mind" Dad would ask "Does it work better now?"
Ooh, I *love* that quote from your Dad... ;-)
I would tell him "I changed my mind it works better now"
Oh, I want that so much to work in Norwegian …
Going forward, I hope you will tell a little part of your journey-story in every post so your readers can stand shoulder to shoulder with you in witless admiration.
ARGH :)
😂
It can only work if he is being "authentic"
Good point. A few calming breaths should do the trick.

P.S. I may be slightly bitter. Sorry.

What a journey… I mean flight & short drive.
Okay, you made me laugh with the "journey" line ;-) My mother was an inveterate bringer-back of things, generally in hand luggage... including two vast Columbian pots that we now have in our living room...
"Journey" is acceptable if they are "authentic" people and even more so if they work in an industry where they are the "disruptors" ...
I don't mind a bit of "our story" malarkey, although I would love to see something along the lines of
"I was pissed as a rat one night and thought... "
Or
"Whilst being arrested for urinating on a nun, I suddenly thought..."
How about
"I spent so many years trying to figure out how to rip people off with no effort..."
Possibly
"I'm going against the norm with this brand, even though my wife thinks I'm a twat"
See, THOSE stories I might actually read ;-) Especially the AUTHENTICITY of "I spent so many years trying to figure out how to rip people off with no effort..."
I actually *did* once decide a career path whilst pissed as a rat. Still in the industry ;)
I hope it's in your company bio!
Out of the mouths of babes and drunk brains...
The clothing purchased on a whim. I try to ask myself if I'll ever wear it again before buying it. Maybe an idea for a vacation clothes rental service.
I think that’s a great idea. I might join you on that journey of innovative success 😆
A vacation clothes rental service should take off -- if you can just give it a properly dull "story."
Ooh, that's a good idea...

Yeah, I can imagine he would have been curious about that!
Many people rent formal wear, costumes etc...
Haha, one of my friends named his daughter Journey. She's growing into her name by the year.
Dear LORD.
Houses definitely test us. Ours flooded the day after we moved in. It turned out that it just wanted us to pull up the shitty manufactured flooring to reveal the glorious original flooring that just needed a refurbishing. It has (mostly) loved us ever since.
I'm not surprised — it got what it wanted ;-) That's very cool!
