As soon as you promise not to do something, you reveal that’s what you want to do — or at least that you’re keenly aware of the possibility of doing it. As soon as you promise to do something, you admit resistance to the idea. A promise is therefore often a negotiation with a more visceral contrary desire. Those desires will therefore often win in the end — or if simply denied, without confronting them and working through, make you unhappy enough to resurface in other ways.
The cat was sitting in my lap in her best ‘I have been here since the dawn of time’ manner, somehow managing to imply that to disturb her would be to risk destroying the fabric of the entire universe.
There is always a victim of a crime, however secret: the part of the criminal’s mind which did not commit it, and would not have, and knows it to have been wrong, but is now trapped inside the person who did the deed — and thus a person internally at odds with the rest of the world, now and forever. The only perfect crime, therefore, is the one the criminal themselves does not realize they have committed.
The only thing I could do now that would be notable by virtue of my youth is dying.
If an animal sleeps on you, it means it trusts you as much as an inanimate object. Which means a lot.

When one has 'cat lap' one is obliged to remain in place until such time as cat has determined that said lap is no longer required. Equally important, all other members of the household are expected to attend to the needs of the individual with this condition. This is the way.
The cat thing is so true…. Also, the animal sleep thing. To which I would add, that is a measure of human trust, as well. Could I sleep when that person is present? The loss of that trust spelled the end of my marriage. But the feeling when an animal, domestic or wild, sees you as a safe pair of hands - makes you feel chosen.
