When I find an author (or musician, actor, director) I like, I definitely go on a spree of consuming all of their work...which raises a question, before I go out and buy all the Tyler Jones I can find: what's the best way for people to buy books, from the standpoint of the author actually making money? Is there a payout difference between Kindle/print from Amazon/in store Barnes & Noble?
It varies, but generally the author will get the same either way. There's an argument for getting them in bricks and mortar stores if possible... but with these volumes it may be easier to purchase online (and I believe Tyler does signed copies from his web site).
Thanks for this. I read Burn The Plans based on an earlier rec from you, and am now reading Criterium. My TBR pile owes a lot to you, and it’s what keeps me sane 😉
Thank you, both, for sharing such an engaging conversation; definitely piqued my interest in Tyler’s books. (So an additional, tentative, thank you, I guess?)
I’m amused that within your discussion of “focusing down on particular creators”, you don’t acknowledge looking into which artists your favourite artists also “focus down” on. Finding out which musicians a favourite musician loves (or writer, director, etc.) has always brought amazing treasures I wouldn’t have discovered on my own... very possibly soon to include Tyler?!
Anyway, going back to continue reading Only Forward for the eleventh time 🙃
That's a really good point about the fractal tree of your inspirations' inspirations... and definitely something that happened for me — both in terms of writing and also musical taste. And what's interesting is how the further you get up the tree, the more you discover writers where you think "How on earth did this person inspire the person who inspired me..."
damnit, no respect for my teetering TBR pile.
*adds to list*
You'll thank me for it ;-)
Great interview, many things chimed with me. Thank you both.
Excellent - thank you!
Lovely chat. Just what I needed.
Glad you enjoyed - thank you!
Very interesting! Love adding new authors to my pile! :)
I think you'd love BURN THE PLANS...
Will start there then! 😊
